
Getting Your Bathroom Heat Just Right
Picking the wrong wattage for your infrared heater is a pain. You either end up with annoying cold spots or you’re just throwing money away on your electric bill. Now, we build our replacement elements to IP65 standards—which is just a fancy way of saying they can handle steam and the occasional splash of water without dying. But the seal is only half the battle. The real trick is matching the power to the actual size of your room.
Let’s talk about room size
If you’ve got a small bathroom (under 5m²), you don’t need a monster heater. A 250W to 400W lamp usually does the trick. Go too high here, and you’ll probably trip your breakers or create a “heat pocket” so oppressive you’ll just end up switching the thing off. For those bigger bathrooms (8m² to 15m²), you’ll want to jump up to 600W or 1000W. Here’s the thing: infrared doesn’t really “warm the air” like a space heater does. It warms your skin and the surfaces around you. In a bigger room, that energy spreads out and disappears faster. You need that extra punch of wattage to actually feel the warmth across the whole floor.
Speed vs. Your Wiring
High-wattage lamps get you warm fast. It feels great—like a luxury hotel. But there’s a catch. More power puts more stress on your wiring. If you’re putting a 1000W element into an old house, please check your cable gauge first. Thin, old wires can actually heat up themselves, which wastes energy before the heat even reaches the lamp. Not ideal.
A few tips for the install
We designed these to be simple drop-in replacements, but don’t rush the setup. Make sure the mounting bracket is tight. If it’s loose, you get air gaps. Those gaps can cause the quartz envelope to overheat and burn out way sooner than it should. And please, double-check those IP65 gaskets. If the seal isn’t seated right, moisture creeps into the terminals. That leads to pitting or short circuits in a few months, and nobody wants to do this job twice.
